HISTORY
This section provides an overview of Makati High School’s journey—from its establishment to its growth over the years. It highlights key milestones, developments, and contributions that have shaped the school into what it is today.

History
Makati High School, the first public secondary school in Makati, was established in 1968 through Municipal and Provincial Board Resolutions under Mayor Maximo B. Estrella to address the increasing number of elementary graduates.
The Makati Police Department basement housed the first 361 students and 14 teachers in 1968-1969 under Mr. Ruben H. Santos. Tuition was PhP 50.00 in six installments, with PhP 82,878.00 allocated for its operations.
By 1971, enrollment surged to 2,657, leading to accommodation issues. This was resolved by constructing an 8-room Quonset beside the Municipal Hall, renting a building for Home Economics, and later leasing Casa Hacienda from the Ayalas.

In 1972, tuition fees were abolished, leading to a surge in enrollment. Temporary annexes were set up in elementary schools while plans for a 5-story school building were made. By 1977, enrollment reached 8,600.
With rising numbers, annexes opened: Poblacion I (1973), Pio del Pilar (1974), Carmona (1977), and Poblacion II (1977). Elementary schools were also used in the afternoons for 8,534 students.
The current main building (MHS Building B), a 5-story structure with 40 classrooms, labs, a library, and a canteen, was constructed from 1981-1984 under Mayor Nemesio I. Yabut.
To extend education to more areas, the Comembo Annex opened in 1987 but was phased out in 1992 after Benigno Ninoy Aquino High School was built.
Mr. Ruben H. Santos, who led the school for 23 years, played a crucial role in its growth. He passed away in 1991, leaving behind a lasting legacy.
After Mr. Santos, Dr. Ricardo T. Sibug briefly served as OIC, followed by Dr. Isabelita L. Montesa (1991-1994) and Mr. Felix A. Balbaguio (1994-1999), during whose term MHS Building C was constructed, adding 22 classrooms and more facilities.

From May to December 1999, Mr. Roberto V. Anir served as OIC, overseeing the construction of MHS - Poblacion Annex, another 5-story building with classrooms and labs.
Mrs. Juliana B. Tolentino (2000-2002) expanded the school, which housed 5,284 students across three annexes: San Antonio (Mayapis), San Isidro, and Gen. Pio del Pilar. These annexes later became independent schools.
Following Tolentino’s retirement, Mrs. Luzviminda L. Bannag (2002-2003), Dr. Nora H. Serdenia (2003-2004), and Dr. Ester M. Montalbo (2004-2005) took turns leading the school.
Mrs. Bannag returned (2005-2006) before transferring, succeeded by Mr. Roberto V. Anir, who led during the construction of MHS Building A (2007), designed for vocational and technical education.
Makati High School continuously improves with updated instructional materials, new technology, and enhanced infrastructure, including computer and science labs, an e-library, and audio-visual rooms.
To expand education, programs like Special Program for the Arts (SPA), Special Program for Sports (SPS), Open High School Program (OHSP), and Alternative Learning System (ALS) were introduced.

Notable alumni include Shamcey Supsup, 2011 Miss Universe 3rd Runner-up, and Paul Gerald L. Sanchez, 2011 Chemistry Board Exam topnotcher.
In 2012, Dr. Danilo M. Romero became principal, ensuring K-12 program implementation and improving the school’s academic standing.
In 2015, Dr. Dominico C. Idanan took over as OIC, preparing for Senior High School and enhancing facilities, including a vertical garden, covered bleachers, and a new canteen.
In 2016, Mrs. Evangelina N. Apolinario returned, implementing Republic Act No. 10533 for Senior High School with Academic, Technical-Vocational, and Arts & Design strands.
In 2018, Mr. Rosalito N. Palatan assumed office, strengthening school policies, projects, and student engagement.
In 2019, Mr. Felix T. Bunagan took over, enhancing instructional programs, fostering a 21st-century learning environment, and launching Project Smile to promote school harmony.

Since 2023, Mrs. Corazon N. Caculitan has been leading Makati High School with a steady hand and a heart full of care. Her leadership has brought out the best in both teachers and students, creating a school environment that’s grounded in compassion, teamwork, and a shared purpose.
